Boston FIG 2014 Recap

WGBH Digital returns to Boston FIG for the second time! Adventure ensues!

This year, WGBH Digital’s kids team returns to Boston FIG to show off our latest batch of educational games! We invited our friends – Arthur, Curious George, Peep, and Ruff – to help us show off our hard work.

We got a lot of great feedback and got to meet so many families that knew our shows and games. It was exciting to to meet people who are familiar with PLUM LANDING – our online-only brand. It was great to share news about a new Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman project with some passionate fans. It was especially rewarding to see this adorable boy (can’t be more than 2 years old) delighting in mixing colors in Paint Splat and looking for Quack in Where’s Quack? on the iPad. Seeing kids and grown-ups alike enjoying and learning from our games is what keep us doing what we do.

Aside from showing off our games, we also got to play some pretty fun and amazing games around the floor.

Here are a few of our favorites:

  • That Rock Paper Scissors Game – a 3-player console version of the playground classic. The same rules apply. If you’re paper, you have to chase down scissors but avoid rock. It’s interesting to be both predator and prey.
  • NEST – stop motion animation with hand-made felt wool creatures. Noir Syndrome – procedurally generated murder mystery game. The possibilities are endless! 8-bit graphics FTW!
  • Zombie Hearts Chicken – simple endless runner but oh so rewarding. Black Hat Oculus – 2-player co-op using Oculus. 2 heads are better than one when it comes to puzzle solving.
  • Alien Makeout Simulator – first-person kisser game with Oculus.

When you complete the demo, you’re rewarded with a tube of custom lip balm.

Oculus VR was everywhere!

The best part of any convention/festival: SWAG!

Can’t wait for next year!
